Context & Challenge
A leading international organisation with a core mission to maintain global peace and security, protect human rights, deliver humanitarian aid, and promote sustainable development undertook the design and development of a chemsex clinical toolkit for clinical services providers in the Asia-Pacific region. The organisation recognised the significant psychosexual impact of chemsex behaviours, but that given chemsex is stigmatised and often illegal there are significant barriers to support seeking. The organisation required collaboration and consultation with experts from various fields, including research, academic, and medical and psychological healthcare.
Strategy & Execution
The toolkit, available here, was developed in consultation with key stakeholders, including regional and country experts, government representatives, community, healthcare professionals, CSO/NGOs, advocates and researchers from across the Asia-Pacific region. David was a member of the regional advisory group for the development of the clinical toolkit.
Results & Impact
The resulting clinical toolkit equips health care providers with an understanding of harm reduction interventions through easy-to-use guides and tools, as well as lived-experience case studies and education/training modules. The toolkit empowers health care workers across the region to practice confidently and competently, allowing them to deliver population friendly services that reduce harm related to high-risk behaviours. The toolkit highlights the importance of an integrated approach that responds to the specific needs of key populations that engage in chemsex.
